Ashford Derailleurs Cycling Club is affiliated to BRITISH CYCLING through their ‘Go-ride’ scheme.
British Cycling is the organisation that backs gold-medal Olympic cycling heroes such as JAMIE STAFF, CHRIS HOY, BRADLEY WIGGINS, NICOLE COOKE, VICTORIA PENDLETON and others. MARK CAVENDISH, multiple stage-winner at the Tour de France in 2008, 2009 and 2010 also came up through British Cycling. So, who knows where the stars of the future might come from, given the right coaching…?!
As part of the £20 annual club membership fee, all members of Ashford Derailleurs Cycling Club aged up to 16 are automatically entitled to all the benefits of SILVER level Membership of British Cycling free for the first year. 17 and 18 year olds are automatically entitled to the benefits of Bronze level Membership (Please see the British Cycling website for further details: www.britishcycling.org.uk)
Silver level Membership includes:
· Access to a full racing licence (needed to take part in many events) at no extra cost
· A weekly e-mail newsletter
· Access to training and coaching
· Cheap bike and travel insurance
· Third party public liability insurance
· Legal advice and support
Jamie Staff
Jamie, who grew up near Ashford and went to the North School, is a patron of Ashford Derailleaurs Cycling Club. He is an enthusiastic supporter, and has attended club activities and training sessions to give advice and encouragement to the members. He has also been known to bring along the Gold Medal he won at the last Olympics in the Men's Team Sprint event. As well as being an Olympic Champion, Jamie has also won world titles on the track and in BMX ( he started as a professional BMX rider before moving to the track). He is so fast that he recently had one of the new High Speed Trains named after him!
